Hawaii's team just won the Little League World Series! These kids and their parents worked really hard to get there; one Dad even quit his job so he could be there for his son. It's great to see all that pay off with a win. And it's especially cool because they are from a neighborhood that isn't exactly known for its affluence. It's rare that you see "Ewa Beach is number one," let alone something as big as "Ewa Beach won a World Series!". We are proud to be Hawaii today.
I don't follow sports and I don't like baseball, but for some reason all of us got really excited about this. We were in Chili's this afternoon for lunch and were periodically peeking into the bar to check the score. People were gathered there watching, and even most of the employees were standing there staring (which explains the slow service this afternoon). When the bar erupted with screams and cheers 75% of those in the dining room (including my husband) jumped out of their seats and ran for the TVs to see the game-winning homerun! Yay!
It was also fun listening to the announcers stumble over names like Fe'au, Aliviado, Aglipay, etc. I think just about every Hawaiian ethnicity was represented (even Portuguese!).
