I don't know much about most baseball leagues. Who plays where, when, and against who -- college vs pro differences, etc. I really know nothing about these things.
But I can give you a little insight into the world of Little League for kindergarteners. Five-year-old Little League is the league where any and all of the following has occurred at various points during various games:
- A second baseman spent an entire inning crying at the top of his lungs because his father forced him to stand up and abandon his comfy seat in the middle of the base.
- A third baseman lay prone on his belly, chin propped up on his hands and feet kicking in the air, and airily watching as the ball rolled past him.
- The pitcher ignored all instructions to pick up a ball with her free hand, continuously trying to use her glove instead, prompting the coach to order her to open her hand. Wherein the coach discovered a treasured bug the pitcher had found during the previous play. Even then he had a hard time convincing her to let it go.
- The shortstop industriously filled his glove with dirt, emptying it out carefully onto the ground when anyone told him to field a ball. And re-filling it as soon as the next play began.
- The runner on third got confused and ran to catch a pop fly hit by his teammate.
- The batter up didn't answer a couple questions from the coach because his mouth was too full of apple slices, which his little brother had been slipping to him through the dugout fence.
- The opposing team's batter got a hit and then promptly ran to third.
- The runner on second got passed by both the runner on first and the batter during a home run play -- because he was drawing in the dirt with his shoe.
Now isn't that more interesting than any multi-million dollar pro game?
And now, just for fun, here is a picture of one of the culprits in action:
